Why choose a catamaran charter?

If you are a group of 6 or more people, you will enjoy the grand comfort and space this type of vessel offers. With only a 40 foot catamaran, you will easily have 4 double cabins, at least two full bathrooms, a good kitchen and an indoor saloon with spectacular views. In addition, the outdoor spaces include a large cockpit and space at the bow so you can enjoy the sun, sea and sailing to the max. The mesh or canvas that unites the bows of the two hulls makes for an incredible space that will delight children as well as adults.

Catamarans are clearly faster and more comfortable than monohulls, whether with sails or a motor, in many aspects. Sailing in a catamaran is quick, easy and fun. The indoor accommodation space is almost twice that of a monohull and you can anchor in shallow sheltered coves thanks to its small draft.

However, when it comes to choosing a catamaran charter for your holiday, not everything is an advantage. The space a catamaran occupies on a dock in a port often makes mooring difficult, especially in high season or in ports on the Balearic Islands or in the Costa Brava. In other Mediterranean countries, such as Croatia, Malta or Greece, the ports tend to be more accommodating to this type of vessel.

Advantages of a catamaran as compared to a traditional monohull :

MORE COMFORT

Space is much more abundant, thus the accommodation area is undoubtedly larger than in any monohull of similar lengths overall. In addition, you can comfortably cook while cruising at a speed of 8 knots, something that is very complicated in a monohull.

GREATER INDEPENDENCE:

The fact that the vessel has two hulls creates privacy among the passengers on board as each hull has two cabins and a bathroom. If there are two families on the vessel, each family can have their own hull without having to share with anyone else, or in other cases, the adults can sleep in one while the children sleep in the other.

REDUCED SEASICKNESS:

Catamarans move less but when they do, they pitch without producing rotating movements which are the ones that cause the greatest discomfort aboard other types of vessels. This doesn’t mean that people won’t get seasick; rather it strongly confirms that the incidence of seasickness is much less.

MORE SAFETY

As the boat doesn’t heel over, stability is infinitely better, thus reducing the risk of falling into the sea, especially for children.

LESS DRAFT

The fact that the draft is smaller than with monohulls enables catamarans to approach the most crystalline waters which are located nearer to the shore.

MORE SPEED

Catamarans can easily reach 11 knots with favourable winds blowing at 20 knots.
