Kotor is a town in Montenegro on the Mediterranean coast. An impressive wall surrounds it. During the last few years, the tourist sector has boomed. The natural, cultural and historical region of Kotor is a World Heritage site.
The coastal plains are narrow with a width of between 2 km and 10 km along the broken Adriatic coastline, with its numerous estuaries and bays, outstanding among these being the bay of Kotor, considered to be the most easterly fiord on the continent. These plains come to an abrupt end when they meet the rocky plateaus of eroded chalk, which rise up to above 1000 m on average.
Kotor’s climate is Mediterranean, characterised by its wet, temperate winters, and dry, hot summers. Although here it is typified by a period of several months of drought, followed by another period of torrential rains, and temperature swings greater than 15ºC, more than in a typical subtropical climate.
