How to avoid dizziness in a boat (I)

 title=

We have all suffered, or we know someone, who tends to get dizzy as soon as he gets on some means of moving transport, like cars, planes or boats. The feeling is not pleasant, but here comes the good news, it has a solution and we can put on practice some simple tricks to avoid it.

The dizziness in a boat occurs because the brain receives signals from the inner ear (which detects the movement of the boat), which do not match those perceived by the eye (if they are focused inside the boat, mobile or a book ...). The bigger the boat, the less possibility of suffering these discomforts as they have stabilizers that neutralize the movement of the boat.

But let's be positive, the odds of dizziness are not many!  Just in case, here are some ideas for our conditions to be the best before making a boat trip:

  1. It is important to have rested much earlier: being in good condition and clear will help us to better face the trip.
  2. Do not board the boat on an empty stomach. It is advisable to eat light foods without heavy meals before beginning the journey. Nor should we drink alcohol.
  3. Avoid bad odors. Run away from the area where we get the engine vapors. Nor do colonies and intense perfumes help.
  4. Protect from the sun: basic anointing with sun cream, wear suitable clothes (nothing that gives us too much heat, as it favors dizziness), and drink water to stay hydrated.
  5. Do not force the view: the mobile becomes our worst enemy on board, nor is it convenient to read for a long time or to fix the view of the elements inside the boat.

And these have been our little tips useful to avoid seasickness Do you know others?

In the next installment we will talk about how to end the dizziness once we are already suffering.
