Montenegro is one of the perfect tourist destinations gaining popularity with tourists. And not only for its attractive shores, but also thanks to the rich culture. Located in southeastern Europe, in the Balkan Peninsula, the country receives the gently waves of the legendary Adriatic Sea. For this reason, rent a boat in Montenegro is one of the most exciting ways to discover all the wonders of its coast and dive into a culture encouraging surprised with joy and love for the simple things. This is because different nations (Serbian, Orthodox, Slavs and arrived by sea), were meeting in this newborn country and the coast is full of monuments Catholics while proliferate inside the Byzantines.


To enjoy our trip on the rented catamaran we have designed an itinerary that helps us visit main coast municipalities and locations:


Day 1: Tivat- Herceg Novi (10 mn)

Tivat is the small coastal town on the southwest of Montenegro in Kotor Bay. It is located between high hills and is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Despite of is a very small town, Tivat offers a good choice of attractive destinations. Such as Ostrvo Cvijeca Island, also known as the Island of Flowers, at only 300m long and 200m wide, actually connected to the mainland by an isthmus. The most popular is the monastery of San Miguel Arcangel, which has an interesting history

Day 2: Herceg Novi - Ulcinj (54 mn)

Herceg Novi - Ulcinj (54 mn)

Although being not one of the most popular in Montenegro, Herceg Novi is a very appealing alternative. Dock your rented catamaran or sailboat and approach to the Kula Kanli, the "Blood Tower", built in the Ottoman period (sixteenth century) or the Clock Tower built by Sultan Mahmud. On the promenade you will also find the fortress Forte Mare with the Porta di Mare at the top of the tower from which one can contemplate a breathtaking sunset.


Before returning to your rented boat, it is worth visiting the Citadel near the sea and connected to the lower town with the tower built by the Venetians.

Day 3: Ulcinj - Petrovac (23 mn)

Ulcinj - Petrovac (23 mn)

Ulcinj is located on the southern part of the Montenegro’s coast and boards Albania. It has a beautiful castle overlooking the sea that is worth knowing and the historical part (Stari Grad) offers a multitude of details and places to enjoy. Even though it was mostly destroyed during the earthquake of 1979, thanks to some investors it was almost entirely restored. To get there, take a walk along the wall to the sea and between the arches, watch the waves crashing against the rocks. If time allows, visit the city museum.

Day 4: Petrovac - Radobici (20 mn)

Petrovac - Radobici (20 mn)

Petrovac, located between the towns of Bar and Budva, has a sandy beach about 600 meters long, called Ptrovac na Moru, which is almost always full of people and is considered to be a tourist point of interest. At the end of this beach you will find a nice café - restaurant. Also, in this same area, you can find the Castio, sixteenth century fortress, built by the Venetians and from where you can get beautiful panoramic view of the place. To end the day and before going to rest on board your rented catamaran, gullet or sailboat, take a walk down the street parallel to the beach. There you can find all kinds of restaurants and bars.

Day 5: Radovici – Rose (10 mn)

Radovici is another small town on the coast of Montenegro with a very special attraction. The blue cave has its own entry into the sea and is one of the most important tourist attractions of the Montenegro coast that is only accessible by sea. Check with the nearest town to find information on how to get there.

Day 6: Rose - Kotor (14 mn)

On the way to Rose you’ll pass near the coastal towns of Zabrdje and Krasici, with the best view of the Straits of Kumbor and the Bays of Tivat and Herceg Novi. Rose is one of the oldest settlements in this area, appearing in documents of fourth century. So there are quite a few places with archaeological relics on land and on the seabed. For this reason, one of the most widespread activities is diving. Don’t miss the opportunity to approach the shipwrecks. On the other side of the hill a quiet little cove is situated called Little Rose, right next to the town. Right beyond it you can find numerous quiet coves, ideal to retire to enjoy a peaceful solitude. Then, in the evening, you can have a tasty dinner in the restaurant within the ancient fortress city, Forte Rose, or on the beachfront promenade.

Day 7: Kotor – Risan - Tivat (13 mn)

Kotor is located in a Dalmatian Bay and is surrounded by tall and beautiful cliffs and a wall that surrounds it, worth to be visited at the sunset. Undoubtedly, the best way to see and reach the town of Kotor is by sea, aboard a hired catamaran, a sailboat or a gullet. The Church of Our Lady of the Rock is located on a small islet off the bay and has a beautiful legend that can be enjoyed while tasting a grof in one of the bars. In the city itself you can visit a  St.Tryphon’s cathedral, the Piazza of the Arms and the North Gate. Today Kotor is a World Heritage Site for its unique beauty. Also worth stopping to visit the nearby Risan, in the bay of Kotor, the oldest settlement of this Adriatic Sea spot. For this reason one of its strongest attractions are the numerous Roman mosaics.


To end our fascinating itinerary in Montenegro in our charter boat, we dock again in Tivat. We left with winds of adventure and returned with a fresh breeze of delight and satisfaction.
