Beyond the canals.

In addition to its canals, Holland is a very interesting destination for people passionate about sailing. The most important cruising area is, without a doubt, Lake Ijsselmeer, the inland sea of Holland. Chartering a sailing boat or a yacht in Lemmer and cruising around this very sheltered area is an excellent option for beginners and families with children. However, if you’re an expert sailor and you’re not bothered by the tides but rather allured, then you can cruise the Wadden Sea and visit the islands of the same name (also known as the Dutch Frisian Islands) in the north. The Wadden Islands (Texel, Terschelling, Vlieland, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog) boast stupendous beaches and an incredible biodiversity in both fauna and flora which is why, in 2009, the UNESCO added them to the World Heritage List. Another option is to cruise the coast of Zeeland in the southern part of the country. This area is a paradise for sunbathers since the sun shines an additional 140 hours here as compared to the rest of the Netherlands. The Weskapelle Lighthouse, the Grevelingen Estuary, the largest in Europe, and the cities of Colinjsplaat and Zierkzze, connected by the longest bridge in the Netherlands, are just some of the attractions this part of the Dutch coastline has to offer. Don’t think twice. Venture beyond its famous canals and discover everything Holland has to offer aboard a boat.
