The city of Nanaimo is a classic of the west coast. In the centre of Vancouver Island, it offers natural beauty at every step and a great recreational potencial. As the second largest city on Vancouver Island, it promises an exceptional and very cosmopolitan urban experience. From the city centre along the commercial street, the Victoria Crescent, and Fitzwilliam Street, is a prosperous mixture of restaurants, music clubs, shops, galleries, and exciting nightlife. A new conference centre in the heart of the city is already a big attraction to the new wave of smallholders and service businesses attending to the visitors. Nanaimo is also the home of Woodgrove Mall, the biggest commercial centre on Vancouver Island, and various other attractive commercial centres throughout the city. Nanaimo is known as one of the regions with the mildest climates in the whole country, a fact that attracts many visitors. The coldest months, between November and February, tend to have high temperatures ranging between 6ºC and 9ºC, while low temperatures are from 0ºC to 2ºC. Summer months, between June and September, have mean daily high temperatures of 20ºC, averaging low temperatures at around 10ºC.
The rains are heaviest in November and December, with a monthly average of 170 milimetres.
